Instead we will meet at Baby Wale at 1124 9th Street.  We will be at the front of the bar and at the table in the window.  Start time is at 5PM when they open.

The association will provide some appetizers, cash bar.

We would like to ask current members to give Jim Loucks a contribution towards the food cost ($10 recommended).  If you aren't a member we'd like to ask you to join which is also $10 to Jim Loucks.

Hope to see you there!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

This year the picnic will be a happy hour, appetizer, pot luck type event.  Saturday Oct 8, 4-8PM.

It will be held in the narrow part of Naylor Court across from my carriage house at 1330 Naylor Court, behind 932-930 O Street. This is the west side of Naylor Court, closer to 10th Street.  We'll use Paul Harrison's parking area back in the alley as the "beer garden" with some tables and chairs in the alley.  If you have a folding chair or two please bring them.

The Association will provide some beer, wine, sodas, water and some snacks (along with plates and forks, etc.)

We are asking everyone to bring some sort of food, appetizer, snack, dessert, whatever strikes your fancy.  Also please bring a beverage of your choice especially if you have something special in mind.

Also it could be a good time to join or renew your membership, just $10 see Jim Louchs.

Feel free to invite neighbors and friends, especially someone new who might not be on the list.

10th Street Community Park's Fall Donation Drive Oct 15th from 10AM - 1PM

Summer is coming to an end so it's the perfect time to clean your closets! We're including a coat drive for adults and kids - coats will be given away onsite to the community. Community members and Neighbors are invited to donate gently-used clothing and small household items at 10th Street Community Park’s fall Donation Drive, to be held Sat. October 15th from 10 am – 1 pm at 10th Street Community Park on 10th St NW between L and M St’s NW in Washington, DC. Acceptable donations include clothing, shoes, accessories, linens, books, and small household items (no furniture).

The drive’s goal is to raise to support The Friends of the Tenth Street Park which ensures the park is well managed, and beautifully ornamented with various annual and perennial flowers, trees and shrubs. Raised funds also go towards several events during the spring, summer and fall months for the benefit of the local community – including Yoga in the Park, Outdoor Movies, Concerts and Children’s Activities.

All goods collected through the Donation Drive fundraiser program are sold to Savers, the parent company to thrift stores like Value Village, Unique, and Savers. They pay us by the pound for every qualifying donation received. In turn, these items help keep their floors freshly stocked. You all helped us raise $500 at out first donation drive this past spring.

Tax receipts for all donations will be provided on site.

A limited number of tables will be available for rent at $10 for the yard sale. Contact barbmcg0102@msn.com for more information or if you'd like to reserve a table.

Assault and Cell Phone Theft 1200 Block of 10th Street Sunday about 11AM

Single woman talking on cell phone walking down the 1200 Block of 10th Street.  Two young teenage males in white t-shirts assaulted the woman and took her cell phone.

They threw the cell phone into a nearby waiting car which drove off (witnesses got the plate number).
Other witnesses saw the assailants and one followed them on the run for a number of blocks finally losing them in the Mt. Vernon Square Metro Station.  Police were called and a full report taken.

I saw the tail end of a similar assault (looked like a punch in the face kind of thing) and cell phone theft from a jogger near the corner of 5th and O Street a few weeks ago - in that case the person doing the assault was very well dressed and ran to a waiting late model BMW which speed off.

All - be careful out there.  If talking and texting in public remain aware of your surroundings and this method of operation for stealing cell phones!

BTW this is being written from Buttercream a nice cool place to hang out and what cinnamon rolls!
