Thally Participates in Art All Night DC and Features New Works from Artist Matthew Hlubny

Hours Extended on Sat. 9/28 until 2am; Late Night Drink and Food Specials

WASHINGTON, DC – Sept 25, 2013: Bringing Modern American Cuisine to 9th St. NW in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, DC, Thally is proud to participate in this weekend’s Art All Night DC (http://www.artallnightdc2013.com), the second full scale overnight arts festival in Washington, DC based on Paris’ Nuit Blanche, presented by Shaw Main Streets (http://shawmainstreets.org/). The celebration occurs in 20 venues in the Shaw neighborhood along 7th and 9th St’s between K St and Florida Ave, and begins at 7:00pm on September 28th until 3:00am on Sunday September 29th

Thally will remain open until 2:00am, welcoming Art All Night attendees to come inside, view works from artist Matthew Hlubny, and enjoy some late-night appetizers and cocktails, which will be available as of 10:30pm. Chef Ron Tanaka will be preparing: Crab Roulettes, Carnitas Sope, Potato Croquettes and Warm Cabbage Soup.

Thally will feature new art works from local artist / designer Matthew Hlubny, who also created the interior design features of Thally.  Using tension between positive and negative space, Matthew Hlubny creates active mixed media abstractions that are suggestive of larger patterns. His compositions showcase a playful creative process of exploration. Layering and interrupting forms explore the tension of growth and decay and the combination of natural and mechanical processes. http://www.matthewhlubny.com/

Our logo and the custom wall graphics created by Matthew Hlubny for Thally’s dining rooms and bathrooms feature images of the antique stables, row-houses and carriage houses that are characteristic of the Blagden Alley-Naylor Court designated historic district in the Shaw neighborhood, contained between O and M Streets and 9th and 10th Streets.

Volunteer's needed for the Logan Circle Citizens Association Holiday House Tour

This year marks the 35th Annual Logan Circle Holiday House Tour!  The Logan Circle Community Association is seeking volunteers to serve as hosts for this year’s House Tour on Sunday, December 8, 2013.  We need 100+ volunteers to staff the homes on the tour and the Wassail reception.
In-home hosts provide a presence for security and traffic control, and are provided with information about highlights of their assigned home to help respond to questions.  Reception volunteers assist at the center of the action at Studio Theatre, guiding traffic from the sidewalk up to the reception area, and helping with ticket sales.
This is a full, fun day!  While the tour itself is held from 1 to 5 p.m., the day begins in the morning with breakfast and a “pre-tour” so all volunteers have the opportunity to see the homes.  The reward comes after the tour concludes at 5, with details to come later.  Trust us, the day will end on a satisfying note!
This is LCCA’s only annual fundraiser, and we need your help to make it a success.
If you’re interested in volunteering for this year’s House Tour, please contact Kristin Thompson at kdtrcg@gmail.com.

ABRA Policy Committee this Thursday (note the American in Blagden Alley is added to the Agenda)

Please note that Xavier Cervera will be attending the ANC 2F Alcohol Policy Committee on Thursday Sept 19.  Washington Plaza Hotel meeting begins at 7PM.

Xavier will present his plans for the "American" restaurant in what is currently a Boxing Gym in Blagden Alley.  Please attend so that you may voice your support or concerns about this proposed restaurant.  The restaurant plans will include both inside and outside seating.  He is requesting a closing time of 11PM Sunday through Thursday and 1AM on Friday and Saturday for the outside dining area.  While the application states a desired closing of the inside restaurant at 2AM Sunday through Thursday and 3AM on Friday and Saturday, informally, Xavier indicates that he will close at 1AM Sunday through Thursday and 2AM on Friday and Saturday.  He proposes to play recorded music.  The objective of the meeting is to reach a settlement agreement on the hours of operation, use of music and any other issues that may be of concern to the community.

3 new restaurants Grand Openings on Friday 6 Sept

Courtesy Shaw Main Streets:

Mayor Gray to Cut Ribbons at Three New Restaurants in Less Than an Hour,
In Celebration of Shaw Neighborhood’s Restaurant Boom, September 6, 2013

On September 6, 2013, Shaw Main Streets will host Mayor Vincent C. Gray and other invited guests at a Triple Play of ribbon cuttings for new Shaw restaurants on a five block stretch of revitalized 9th Street, NW, between L and P Streets.  These three establishments are the vanguard of more than 20 new restaurants and bars that are slated to open in the next six months, with more on the way.

At 2:00 PM, the celebration of Shaw’s restaurant boom will begin at Baby Wale, 1124 9th Street, NW.  Chef/Owner Tom Power, whose Corduroy Restaurant is located next door, has developed this 150-seat casual concept in a dramatic skylit space, decorated with vintage Day Glo GoGo concert posters. And what is likely the longest bar in DC, topped in white marble. Power’s one word description of Baby Wale’s menu: “fun.” (www.babywaledc.comunder construction; 202- 202-450-3311).

At 2:15 PM, the action continues at Thally, 1316 9th Street, NW.  Chef/Co-Owner Ron Tanaka (ex-New Heights, Cork), General Manager/Co-Owner Sherman Outhuok (ex-Maple, Posto), and Co-Owner Paolo Sacco (Owner of Ristorante Tosca, Co-Owner of Posto) have teamed to create this 70-seat Modern American restaurant decorated with  colorful graphics celebrating adjacent Naylor Court’s historic stables. Tanaka refers to his menu as being “simple, fresh and flavorful.”  (www.Thallydc.com202-733-3849).

At 2:30 PM, the event will conclude at Mandalay, 1501 9th Street, NW. Chef/Co-Owner Aung Myint’s 125 seat Burmese restaurant is an offshoot of his family’s Silver Spring, MD Mandalay Restaurant & CafĂ©, but with a twist: he’ll only be offering a chef’s menu at dinner, including dishes not available at any other restaurant in the United States.
